NY LOVES OBAMA

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Upon the official announcement that Barack Obama would be America’s next President, Gary and I roamed the streets of Park Slope and Downtown Brookyln. Hundreds of fellow New Yorkers filled the streets inciting impromptu fireworks, parade-esque drumming (on mailboxes), dancing, hugging, crying and cheering. New York’s attitude had been flushed away by the sheer joy that Obama’s victory brought us. Even the local police joined in and set uo barricades allowing us to spill into the streets.

Here is a video I shot from the corner of 5th Ave and Union Street in Brooklyn.

Danielle Levitt’s Book: We Are Experienced

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

We Are Experienced

I worked for Danielle Levitt my first two years out of college. She sent me all over the place searching for quirky teens for her to photograph. We Are Experienced, her first book, is filled with images capturing strange and beautiful youth across America. The book comes out this November.

The Instant’s Polaroid Show

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Louise Sturges & Katharine Barthelme pulled off a great opening for The Instant, a show embracing the polaroid, last Saturday night. My digital camera is very sick, but luckily there were plenty of picture snappers there.

Photos of the evening by Andrew DeFrancesco.

Tonight (Tuesday May 6th)

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Come up to Maysles tonight for a screening of Who Is Bozo Texino, Bill Daniel’s soon-to-be (if not already) classic film about freight hopping and hobo graffiti. After the film there will be a Q&A, and a book release for Mostly True, the companion book to the film that Phil, Rich, Sam and I lovingly labored over for the first couple months of this year.
